On 24 and 25 April 2025 in Nouakchott, Mauritania, members of the Regional Network of Marine Protected Areas in West Africa (RAMPAO) gathered for their 10th General Assembly, held on the sidelines of the Marine and Coastal Forum (FOMACO). Organised with the support of the Regional Partnership for the Conservation of the Coastal and Marine Zone of West Africa (PRCM), this meeting brought together marine protected area managers, national institutions and technical and financial partners.

This General Assembly provided members with an opportunity to reaffirm their commitment to consolidating RAMPAO and giving it the means to pursue its mission in service of the sub-region’s marine protected areas. To this end, several structural decisions were adopted to strengthen the network’s functioning, improve its governance mechanisms and consolidate its capacity for action.
The General Assembly also proceeded with the renewal of its governing bodies. Colonel Momar Sow was re-elected as President of the Board of Directors. He will be joined by Ms Aïssa Regalla De Barros as Vice-President, Mr Gautier Amoussou as Secretary General and Mr Karim Sall as Treasurer.
At the conclusion of the proceedings, members extended their sincere thanks to the Fonds français pour l’environnement mondial (FFEM) and PRCM for their support, their renewed trust and their contribution to the success of this General Assembly. They acknowledged their commitment alongside RAMPAO during this critical phase of consolidation and network strengthening, and reaffirmed their shared ambition to continue the momentum for the benefit of marine protected areas in West Africa.
