The 5th Ordinary General Assembly of the Regional Partnership for Coastal and Marine Conservation in West Africa (PRCM) was held on 30 April 2026 at the Mokhtar Ould Daddah Congress Palace in Nouakchott, on the sidelines of the Regional Marine and Coastal Forum.
On this occasion, PRCM Executive Director Ahmed Senhoury presented an overview of the Partnership’s activities and upcoming strategic prospects. This presentation highlighted major advances recorded in recent years, notably the development of new international partnerships, an expanded project portfolio, field actions and strengthened regional advocacy for marine and coastal conservation.
PRCM has also consolidated its presence at major international ocean and climate meetings, through participation in the IUCN World Congress in October 2025 and the United Nations Ocean Conference (UNOC) in June 2025.
Eight new organisations join the network
During this meeting, eleven PRCM membership applications were reviewed and eight received unanimous approval. These are:
- NGO ANDLP (Mauritania)
- NGO BEES (Benin)
- NGO CCAHD (Netherlands)
- NGO CLDA (Côte d’Ivoire)
- RIBC-GIZC (Senegal)
- NGO AGBO-ZEGUE (Togo)
- NGO ENSEMBLE (Mauritania)
- NGO AGIRE (Senegal)
A statutory reform to streamline admissions
Members also adopted a revision of Article 10 of PRCM’s statutes in order to make the membership process more flexible and responsive.
Going forward, the admission of new active members will be validated by two-thirds of the Board of Directors, rather than by the entire General Assembly. This change aims to facilitate the integration of new organisations and support the growth of the network.
Furthermore, the General Assembly proceeded with the partial renewal of the Board of Directors, with the election of five new members:
- Mr Bamol Sow (inter-university network)
- Ms Djalikatou Chérif Haidara (fisheries professionals)
- Mr Tommy Melo (national CSO network)
- Mr Abdoul Doumbya (national CSO network)
- Ms Prudence Wanko (international NGOs)
The mandates of Mr Justino BIAI, President of the Board of Directors, and Mr Ahmed Lefghih, Secretary General, were also renewed for a period of two years. Mr Bamol Sow was elected as Treasurer.
