As part of the WACA ResIP 2 program, the PRCM convened the Extraordinary General Assembly of the Alliance of Parliamentarians and Local Elected Officials for the Protection of the Environment of West African Coastal Countries (APPEL), alongside a regional workshop on key marine and coastal challenges.
Building on the September 2024 meeting in Nouakchott, the event aimed to revive the network’s momentum and enhance members’ capacities to address growing environmental pressures on the West African coastline. Discussions highlighted the crucial role parliamentarians can play in safeguarding coastal ecosystems.
The Assembly concluded with the election of a new Executive Bureau and the appointment of thematic commission leaders. In parallel, the national network of Gambian parliamentarians renewed its leadership, electing Hon. Saiku Bah as its new President.
